Ant & Dec's A History of Tyneside DVD
Recently screened on ITV Tyne Tees as a seven part documentary series featuring two of Newcastles best exports comedy duo Ant & Dec.
Here the boys take on a more serious part presenting a glittering tale of a region bursting with pride. No one who has been to Tyneside can fail to feel the warmth of the most pungent regional identity in Britain.
In the bustle and racket of the centre of Newcastle on the Quaysides of Gateshead and the River Towns, people chatter, acknowledge each other, behave like a community, talk readily to strangers and show none of the deadpan, dystopian anonymity of other conurbations, especially London. And of this, we are proud!!
The story of the region beginning as early as 10,000 years ago after the retreat of the ice fields going through time to the arrival of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the building of the New Castle in 1080 and the dangerous beginnings of the coal trade to the dizzying growth of the Industrial Revolution, the trials of Newcastle United and its heroes and legends and the ever changing face throughout the twenty-first century.
This is the intriguing tale of a unique, magical and dynamic place and the remarkable people who made it!
